Manager of Assembly and Engineering

Cygnus Manufacturing Company (CMC) is a progressive, state-of-the-art contract manufacturer specializing in precision machining, sheet metal fabrication and electro-mechanical assembly. CMC offers services to companies in the following industries: aerospace, medical devices, instrumentation, energy, health & safety, and transportation. We are located in a suburb of Pittsburgh (Saxonburg, PA) and have an excellent opportunity for an aggressive, self-motivated individual to help build our business.

The Manager of Assembly and Engineering will be accountable for the directing, administering and coordinating of all activities of the assembly group with a focus on Medical Device, Scientific Instrumentation, and Health & Safety products that fit both strategically and operationally. This person will also work with customers on product specifications, set up internal processes for new product assembly and direct process improvements.  Responsibilities will include the following:  

1. Develop and execute strategic, operational, and manufacturing process plans that ensure the reliable production and delivery of high quality products at the lowest possible net cost.
2. Lead the planning, budgeting, cost monitoring, assembly methods and staffing of the assembly department.
3. Ensure continuous improvement culture and implement lean manufacturing techniques and cost reduction programs within the Assembly division.
4. In conjunction with sales, develop relationships to increase sales from existing customers by looking for additional manufacturing opportunities.
5. Participate in the closing of new business deals by demonstrating technical and manufacturing competencies, coordinating requirements and integrating contract requirements with business operations.
6. Travel as necessary to meet with customers to prepare for the start up phase of production.
7. Effectively communicate with customers regarding technical aspects of their products and CMC’s manufacturing services.
8. Bring new projects to production phase with efficiency while meeting customer deadlines.
9. Establish and monitor metrics related to the critical processes and cycle times.
10. Foster cross-training among assembly employees in order to create a workforce capable of responding to changing demands.
11. Work in conjunction with sales, estimating, finance, document control, purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, and customer service to ensure a positive outcome for the customer and company.
12. Ensure compliance with Quality and Regulatory standards and maintain adherence to all company policies and procedures.

The ideal candidate will have broad technical knowledge in the areas of electrical and mechanical engineering, Six Sigma, lean, quality, reliability and manufacturing technology. Experience in manufacturing services for build-to-print and build-to-specification components, fabrications and electromechanical assemblies a plus. Seven to ten years of manufacturing supervision experience and a BS in an engineering discipline are required. Knowledge of medical device industry and/or scientific instrumentation design and manufacturing a definite plus. Strong independent work ethic and customer focus. Excellent communication and organization skills. Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Power Point. Must have a friendly personality, a great attitude, and strong desire to succeed. Ability to build and expand relationships with existing and potential customers at multiple levels in the organization. Strong closing abilities will be required for success in this position. Working knowledge of FDA Quality System Requirements and ISO 13485 would be beneficial. Ability to juggle multiple projects and competing work demands. Proven sound judgment, values driven, continuous innovation and improvement, and adaptability skills.
